The winery has been run as a family business since 1974 and is located in the heart of Austria's largest wine-growing village - Gols, Burgenland. The unique microclimate around Lake Neusiedl and the diverse, rich soils create perfect conditions for the production of excellent red and white wines. After training as a winemaker and cellar master, Gernot Schuhmann took over responsibility for cellar management and the marketing of the wines in 1997, thereby initiating a process of restructuring and quality improvement. The vineyard area was continuously increased and today covers about 15 hectares, with the proportion of white and red wine balanced at 40 percent each. The winery relies on decades of experience in cellar management combined with state-of-the-art technologies and natural cultivation. We take great care to ensure that only local grape varieties are planted. Controlled integrated plant protection, intensive foliage work and grape thinning are further important measures. White wines are fermented at controlled temperatures and matured in stainless steel tanks. Red wines are fermented openly on the mash and mature classically in wooden barrels or small oak barrels (about 14 months) after biological acid decomposition. The commitment and drive for perfection of the winegrower Gernot Schuhmann have one goal: to vinify a wide range of high-quality wines with different characters and aging styles.
