The Franz Schindler winery has been a family business for generations, is located in Burgenland, directly on the west bank of Lake Neusiedl in Mörbisch, and is one of the top wineries in the local red wine scene.
The 15 hectares of vineyards with 70% red wine (BF, ZW, CS, ME, SY) and 30% white wine (WR, GV, SB, CH) as well as cuvées, sweet wines and "Franzzante" variations are located in the best Mörbischer vineyards and are processed according to the strictest quality criteria. The pruning and the associated yield limitation form the basis for the desired substance and density of the wines. The Pannonian climate with the influence of the lake and the extreme reduction in volume in the vineyard ensure great ripeness and health of the grapes every year.
The white wine varieties Welschriesling, Grüner Veltliner, Muscat Ottonel and Sauvignon Blanc are fermented slowly and very cool in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The result is dense wines with concentrated fruit. The exception is the internationally influenced Cuvée d’Argent, the top product of the white wine range, which is vinified in barriques.
The sweet wines from the winery, mostly from the grape varieties Bouvier grape, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, impress with their harmony, power, depth of fruit and fine acidity. Never ostensibly sweet, always well supported by alcohol, they are just like the white and red wines among the great wines of Austria.
The grapes of the red wines from the grape varieties Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon ferment on the mash for up to two weeks. After malolactic fermentation, the young wines mature either in large oak barrels or, like Cuvée d’Or, the company's top product, in new barriques for up to 24 months. These wines are characterized by deep color, a dark fruity bouquet, a body rich in substance and a massive tannin structure. The philosophy of the winery to allow large plants to mature more in barrel and only later to put them in bottles or for sale is confirmed by numerous awards and top positions in awards and tastings.
Already the 4th generation Franz Schindler, in this case oenologist Ing. Franz Schindler, also called "Ferry", has taken over the family business and continues the philosophy and tradition of wine production and marketing with a lot of pride, joy and commitment.
