Winery Ernst

Deutschkreutz

Serious. An adjective that has always accompanied Bernhard Ernst since his start in 2005. To press serious wines was already then his goal. The all around, however, more improvised, an experiment in the garage of parents, young and wild just as he was.

Originals not copies. Wines that clearly show their origin. No wood-covered, pumped-up tannin monsters. Burgenland wines full of elegance, depth and finesse. Uncompromisingly high and consistent quality - whether in premium site wines or the basic “Deutschkreutz” line. My passion is to work out the special features of the sites around the village. For me, wines are made where they grow, in the vineyard, not in the cellar. The size of my business allows me to personally follow the development of our wines from the vineyard to the bottle. Conscious of our responsibility for nature and for the next generation, my winery has been certified sustainable since 2019 and organic since 2023.

Hochberg
The first of the three exceptional sites is Hochberg. On slightly sandy loam soil, the high lime content in particular ensures clear, cool fruit in the Blaufränkisch. The 35-year-old vines grow on steep slopes with a southwestern exposure.

Goldberg
The Goldberg is a hilltop in the Deutschkreutz wine mountains. Muschelkalk of the primeval sea is covered here with a one to two meter heavy clay layer. In the east-facing vineyards with a view of the small Pannonian lowlands, outstanding Blaufränkisch wines have been growing here for 45 years.

Fabian
The Fabian vineyard is characterized by a very heavy clay layer. On the Deutschkreutz plateau, the Deutschkreutz forest provides cool winds and creates a successful tension with the warm, lush soil. Old vines, planted in 1949, guarantee unique Blaufränkisch qualities here.
