Open-minded tradition at Lake Neusiedl
The Wendelin estate in Gols is situated between sites such as the Ungerberg, Edelgrund, Altenberg and Goldberg. The old-established family of winegrowers has been growing wine on their vineyards on Lake Neusiedl for generations. The abundance of sunny hours of a summer in Burgenland, the humidity provided by the lake's huge water surface and the mineral soils offer the best conditions for viticulture. "Wine needs a lot of feeling, a lot of experience and a lot of time", says Andreas Wendelin. There is plenty of that in the "Prophet" and the "Poet", the flagships among the winery's selection wines. The wines for these two intensive red wine cuvées with a high proportion of autochthonous Burgenland varieties mature for at least one and a half years in small oak barrels. After cuvétting, the wines mature for another six months before "Prophet" and "Poet" are finally bottled. The result of a rigorous selection process, limited to a few barriques, presents itself in dark ruby garnet and is characterised by a fruity body, deep roasted aroma and great potential.
