In the over 300-year-old vaulted cellar of Esterházy Castle, Austria's largest wine museum attracts visitors with over 700 unique objects relating to wine and viticulture - from historical barrels to the oldest tree press in Burgenland. As early as 1666, the castle's own cellar could hold 2800 litres of wine and employees - including Joseph Haydn - were sometimes paid in "buckets" of wine. Whether wine culture under the Esterházy princes, grape variety studies, distillation or wine and sparkling wine production - everything here revolves around the juice of the vine.
