Nestling picturesquely between the gently undulating slopes of the Leitha Hills and the northern shore of Lake Neusiedl, surrounded by vineyards, meadows and fields, lies Winden am See.
Cycle paths and hiking trails around the resort and in the nearby Leitha Hills lead through vineyards and meadows. At the foot of the Zeilerberg, to the north of the resort, is the only natural cave in Burgenland with Ice Age fauna; the cave, which is protected as a historic monument, can be followed to a depth of 60m. The cycle path leads round Lake Neusiedl through Winden am See’s wine cellar quarter, the “Windener Kellerviertel” - surely one of the architecturally most charming in Burgenland.
Winden am See is a small, peaceful holiday paradise, which still preserves the character of a Burgenland wine-growing municipality. It is also worth visiting the open-air museum and the exhibition pavilion of the well-known sculptor Professor Wander Bertoni on the site of the old Gritsch-Mühle.
