The Storchenhof is very impressive. Wine growing has been practised here for generations. The basic substance of the vineyard dates back to the 16th century, the ownership can be traced back to 1626. The yield is about 15 hectares of vineyards, of which about one hectare is rejuvenated every year in order to keep the range of varieties always attractive. About two thirds of the white wine varieties and one third of the red wine varieties are planted in the best locations of Rust. With the intensive and natural cultivation of the vineyards, success in the form of full-bodied, meaningful wines in the vineyard is always a step closer. Knowledge of traditional methods is just as important as the skilful use of modern cellar technology. We try to provide ideal conditions for every grape variety that arrives from our vineyard. This requires space and finely controlled equipment. Our own press offers a variety of gentle methods and enables us to individually adjust to each variety. Manfred Widder decides which of the methods to use with a lot of intuition when the grapes arrive.
