Thomas Kopfensteiner presses Blaufränkisch wines that bear their origin in themselves: from Deutsch-Schützen and from the Eisenberg. Blaufränkisch wines that could not be more different. But they are always typical of the variety and the region.

The grape variety is his lifeblood. He knows his Blaufränkisch sites in Deutsch-Schützen and on the Eisenberg like the back of his hand. He knows from many years of experience what the vines in the vineyard and the wines in the cellar need. Thomas Kopfensteiner is a Blaufränkisch winemaker by conviction.

The sites in Deutsch-Schützen are characterised by heavy, loamy soils. They produce fruity, juicy, earthy wines. Down-to-earth, honest types, "who are proud of their origins, yet completely relaxed". Iron-rich, barren soils, on the other hand, dominate the Eisenberg. It produces elegant, mineral wines with finesse. They present themselves sensitively yet confidently, restrained yet memorable. Thomas Kopfensteiner appreciates the individuality of each vineyard and each wine. It challenges him as a winemaker, allows him to discover something new with each vintage and promotes the further development of his work and his wines.

Since he took over responsibility for the wines in 2005, the Südburgenländer has consistently focused on natural viticulture, is meticulous in the vineyard and restrained and purist in the cellar. "My wines are meant to convince with their varietal typicity, to be a pleasure to enjoy and to whet the appetite for the next sip. Authentic and straightforward, without dazzling and shouting out loud."

In addition to his Blaufränkisch sites, Thomas Kopfensteiner cultivates vineyards with Welschriesling and Pinot Blanc, Zweigelt, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. From the latter two and mostly Blaufränkisch, he presses his premium wine "Border", which is aged for 20 months in small oak barrels. The deep dark cuvée impresses on the nose with aromas of preserved blueberries, hints of rum pot and fine roasted aromas. Soft, ripe tannins and a strong body guarantee optimal ageing potential....
