Tabor - Ruin secret landmark of the city

For a long time, this castle ruin was thought to be a Roman building, but in fact it dates back to the Middle Ages. Experts' opinions differ as to its function. Some consider it to be a royal residential castle, others a defence tower. The wall construction suggests that the building was erected in the 14th/15th century.

In any case, the Tabor served defensive purposes in later times. In 1708 it was fortified with palisades and wooden posts, but was still unable to withstand the onslaught of the Kurucs.

The Tabor Ruin is situated on an elevation with a magnificent view over the town and the lake from the high walls of the ruin.
