The park and castle were built for the Esterházy family. The originally baroque complex was redesigned and extended into a landscape garden in the early 19th century. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the town centre of Eisenstadt.
For some time now, garden conservation measures have been carried out on the basis of a park conservation work. A special feature of the park is, for example, the already restored ensemble around the Leopoldine Temple, which consists of the temple itself, a rock backdrop with a gorge and a pond. The renovated orangery with the terrace in front of it is one of the most important and beautiful in Austria and can be rented for events and celebrations. Also worth mentioning is the engine house, site of the first Watt steam engine in the Habsburg Empire.
