The Lange Lacke is the largest of over 40 saline lacquers in the Burgenland Seewinkel, a few kilometres northeast of Apetlon. It is fed exclusively by rainwater and its dimensions range between more than 10 km² (with a water depth of up to 80 cm) and complete dehydration due to weather conditions. The Lange Lacke is a paradise for water bird species (well-known for the "Gänstestrich", the daily movements of big flocks of geese which take place every autumn) and an important part of the National Park Neusiedler See-Seewinkel. Hundreds of bird species feel particularly at home in this beautiful habitat.
