Winegrowing has always been of enormous economic and cultural importance in Burgenland. When Paul Anton Esterhazy donated the hospital of the Merciful Brothers in Eisenstadt in 1756, the associated viticulture served exclusively for social work and the production of wine for mass. The motto of the Barmherzige Brüder has always been "With the people - for the people", which is why the initially small winery has always been supported and expanded.
