In 2012, archaeological finds from the Early Bronze Age, the Roman Imperial Period, the Migration Period, the Early Middle Ages (Slavic-Awarian settlement), and buildings from the 2nd World War were found on the south-eastern outskirts of Weiden am See, near the B10 cycle path.

The foundations of a villa rustica (Roman estate) with underfloor heating and a bath house are worth mentioning, but also over 4000 archaeological objects and countless finds from several cultural eras from the Neolithic to the 20th century. This makes the site in Weiden am See one of the largest and most productive of its kind in Burgenland.

Since June 2015, the results of the excavations have been presented to the public by means of information boards at the Archaeological Info Point on the lake bottom.
