The lime kiln behind the Schreiner Inn could have existed as early as 1749, according to records at Forchtenstein Castle. It is certain that the lime kiln existed around the middle of the 19th century. The Ödenburger Distriktional-, Handel- und Gewerbekammer mentions the lime kiln of Johann Schreiner for the years 1883-1885 with an annual production of about 200,000 kg of lime. The owner's ledger was certified with the seal of the Magyar Royal Agricultural Office on June 12, 1877.
The lime kiln was in operation until the end of the 1950s, then it was closed down due to industrial production.
Today it is a popular hiking and excursion destination in Forchtenstein. It is idyllically situated on a forest path near the Schreiner quarry. A covered seating area with a large table and a barbecue area are inviting. The barbecue area may be used by prior arrangement and by bringing a photo ID to the Lore Schreiner Inn. Minors are not allowed to use it without adult supervision. Hiking, running, walking and chilling - and all this in the most beautiful nature.
