Viticulture has been of great importance in Neckenmarkt since the Middle Ages. In the museum you can learn about the essential differences between the viticulture of that time and today.
One part of the museum is dedicated to flag-waving, an old tradition from Neckenmarkt, whose origins date back to 1620. During the battle of Lackenbach the farmers of Neckenmarkt distinguished themselves by their heroic efforts. In gratitude, they received, among other privileges, a flag from Prince Nikolaus Esterházy.
Today, young men of Neckenmarkt still commemorate the bravery of their ancestors on the Sunday after Corpus Christi in the historic Hajduken uniform with a traditional of flag-waving ceremony. Since 2018, flag-waving has been part of Austria's intangible cultural heritage.
