The Franciscan monastery houses the family tomb of the Batthyány family.
Count Adam Batthyány established a burial site with the Franciscan monastery under the monastery church, which is still in use today. The tomb is arranged in a cross shape beneath the church and consists of a larger two-aisled room and a smaller one beneath the choir. This is connected to two other small rooms located beneath the Loreto Chapel and the sacristy, as well as another room that is somewhat lower, beneath the tower.
An expansion took place in 1969, so the tomb now extends beneath the northern wing of the monastery building. There are approximately 100 sarcophagi along with heart urns in the tomb, making it the second largest family tomb in Austria, after the Capuchin or Imperial Crypt in Vienna.
The tomb is not publicly accessible, but a visit is possible upon request and with prior registration!
