The building of the old mill houses two important museums for Güssing: The Emigration Museum documents the emigration of thousands of Burgenlanders, especially to the USA, at the beginning of the last century. The second part of the exhibition is dedicated to the Güssing dialect poet Josef Reichl. The district of Güssing was particularly affected by this emigration.
From here more than 9000 Burgenlanders emigrated to America. The second part of the exhibition is dedicated to the Güssing dialect poet Josef Reichl. In his works he described the fate of the borderland inhabitants. His love for his homeland, the Hianznland, gave rise to many poems and stories. Impressive testimony is the play "Landflucht", which shows the living conditions in the villages, which led many people to leave their country and look for a new home in America.
