Winter in the National Park - Excursion

11.01.2025

A winter visit is also always worthwhile. With mild temperatures, many birds overwinter in the Seewinkel. So you can watch hen harriers, white-fronted geese or Great Grey Shrikes in peace and quiet.

The National Park Neusiedler See - Seewinkel is also worth a visit in winter. The cold season presents itself mostly quite mild and with little snow. On the still green meadows and fields thousands of gray geese and white-fronted geese can be observed searching for food. But if snow does fall from the sky, even small amounts of snow are enough to create meter-high snowdrifts when the wind blows. Rare hoarfrost nights cover the plants on the pastures with wonderful ice crystals. And during long periods of cold weather, even the lakes and rivers freeze, leading to many an unexpected animal sighting.
