Wilderness full of life - the reed belt of Lake Neusiedler See - excursion

19.10.2024

A footbridge leads you into an almost impenetrable wilderness full of life. Discover this richly structured habitat with us.

The reed belt surrounding Lake Neusiedl covers an incredible 180 km² - the equivalent of around 25,000 soccer fields. In a European comparison, it is in second place; only in the Danube delta is there a larger contiguous reed area. The thicket of reeds of different ages forms a surprisingly richly structured habitat within this monoculture, to which the bird life living there has adapted perfectly and even brought out real "reed experts". The habitat between open water and impenetrable wilderness is also home to many other animal species.
