Housing in the countryside – a guide
Residential construction in the countryside is up for discussion: ecological, energy, resource-related and social issues make denser building forms necessary, as does the use of vacant and underused land in existing village structures. The question therefore arises: Between the single-family house and the apartment block, are there suitable building and living types in the village that do justice to today's “living in the country”? The exhibition shows residential buildings in the country that respond to the established village structures and see the house as a village building block. Typologies are presented with exemplary projects that fit into historically grown plots and make good use of inner village areas. The focus is on the courtyard, which, as a protected open space, enables attractive living. The connections between living and the village's infrastructure are illuminated, which make daily life easier, strengthen the town centers and reduce the growing demands on living space. The examples shown act as instructions, motivate you to imitate and show how contemporary building and living in the country can work.
