The Pannonian region has produced two giants of music history, Joseph Haydn and Franz Liszt. Master pianist Kateryna Titova has selected piano concertos by both composers for the opening concert of the new Liszt Festival season: Haydn's cheerful D major concerto, bursting with joie de vivre, and Liszt's pianistic challenge "Malédiction", which points far into the future. With Grieg's suite "From Holberg's Time" and Haydn's popular "Farewell Symphony", the two piano concertos are flanked by absolute hits of the classical-romantic repertoire.
