Wine shapes the life of our family
In the heart of central Burgenland, on the former Roman Amber Road, in the birthplace of the famous composer and piano virtuoso Franz Liszt, lies - surrounded by rolling hills with vineyards and forests, with meadows and fields - the Wolf family winery. For generations the family has been cultivating vines in their vineyards such as those in the "Ragaberg" vineyard. With new knowledge and methods, the farm is expanding to become one of the best in Blaufränkischland. Influenced by the quality consciousness of their parents, Hermann and Anna, the children Gregor and Michael take over the responsibility in the winery. Traditional craftsmanship combined with contemporary viticultural expertise and state-of-the-art cellar technology gives rise to wines of the highest quality.
Tradition and modern technology
On the one hand there is tradition in our cellar, on the other hand the most modern cellar technology. With this technology as much as possible of this quality is brought into the bottle. But in the foreground is still the gentle treatment, with as few interventions as possible in the vinification to get along. Fresh, healthy grapes are vinified according to location and quality, gently processed and finished. This begins with the careful mashing of the grapes, through pressing and controlled fermentation, to the use of small wooden barrels in the aging of the wines. The experience of this special, gentle and clean work in the cellar are fruity, nuanced white wines and deep dark, full-bodied red wines of unique unforgettableness.
Wolf's Vineyards
In addition to traditional varieties such as Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Grüner Veltliner and Gelber Muskateller, international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay are also vinified on the estate's own vineyards. The area, which is protected in the northeast by a high mountain range, and by the nearby Lake Neusiedl, has a strong effect on the climate of the vines. This distinctive aroma of cherry and blackberry and the pithy texture gives the wine its unmistakable character of this area. Old vineyards, a locally typical low trellis training and south-facing sites take advantage of the sun's rays to ensure satisfactory grape ripening. Responsible use of pesticides and soil care maintains a healthy ecological balance in our vineyards. Short pruning and consequent yield reduction thank our grapes with qualitative top performances.
